On April 16, 2026, Qaqortoq Airport opens – marking a new step forward for the entire region. The new airport represents an upgrade to the overall travel framework in South Greenland. An Opening Day that marks the beginning

The opening will be celebrated with the first flights and events in both Nuuk and Qaqortoq – a day that brings the region together and marks the beginning of something new.

In Nuuk, the day will begin with activities at the airport, where passengers and guests can take part in the celebration before the first flight departs for Qaqortoq.

Upon arrival in Qaqortoq, the celebration continues with the first landing and subsequent departure – a historic moment for travel in the region.

Later in the day, the celebration moves into town, where everyone is invited to join kaffemik, music, and speeches. In the evening, the day concludes with a dinner for invited guests.

Closer to the World

With Qaqortoq Airport, connections are strengthened – both within Greenland and internationally.

Air Greenland operates domestic routes to and from Qaqortoq

Icelandair operates routes to Qaqortoq from June to September 2026
