  • This is a big day for us to announce the expected openings. We have worked with focus and dedication for many years. It’s an achievement we are proud of and an important step for the development of all of Greenland, says Anna Eva Villefrance, Program Manager for the commissioning of the airport projects in Qaqortoq and Ilulissat.

Project Status
Both construction projects are following the overall timelines, and contractors are in the final phase of handing over their parts.

Qaqortoq: The runway and buildings are close to completion. At the same time, we are working on interior design, and the installation of technical solutions and equipment, while also training staff and building emergency preparedness.

Ilulissat: The runway and buildings have been handed over. The next steps are also interior work, equipment installation, testing and training leading up to the final operational approval from the Danish Civil Aviation and Railway Authority.

Both commissioning processes build on valuable – though sometimes hard-earned -experience from Nuuk Airport, which gives us a strong foundation.

Still a Way to Go
Opening a completely new airport is a complex process with many dependencies, procedures, and approvals that need to fall into place. There is still a significant amount of work ahead in the coming months.

  • We are well on our way, and we are optimistic. The work gloves are on, and we look forward to the major efforts in the months ahead. We will do everything to make it succeed and look forward to welcoming the first passengers, says Anna Eva Villefrance.

We will continue to share updates on progress here on the website and on social media. Stay tuned—it’s going to be exciting!
