Hand luggage

Hand luggage includes all bags you carry with you on board the plane. The airlines set the rules for hand luggage. We therefore recommend that you check the requirements of the airline you’re flying with before your journey.

Usually you may bring:

  • Overcoats, jackets, hats, gloves, scarves etc.
  • Liquids in portions of less than 100 ml collected in a resealable 1 litre bag
  • Baby food for the journey and necessities for babies and young children
  • Small electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, earphones etc.
  • Small bags that fit under the aircraft seat
The size of the bag you may bring with you depends on the rules set out by the airline you’re flying with and the type of ticket purchased
  • Small suitcases that fit in the aircraft’s overhead locker
The size of the bag you may bring with you depends on the rules set out by the airline you’re flying with and the type of ticket purchased

Check-in luggage

Check-in luggage includes all bags that are to be stored in the hold of the plane during your flight so you don’t have to carry them with you on board. The airlines set the rules for what and how much check-in luggage you may bring. We therefore recommend that you always check the regulations of the airline you’re flying with before your journey.

Soft Luggage

Want to get through check-in quickly and avoid extra waiting time at Nuuk airport?
Then we recommend packing your belongings in a hard-shell suitcase instead of a soft bag.

Soft Luggage Must Go in Odd-Size

Soft luggage – such as sports bags, backpacks, and duffel bags – must be dropped off at the Odd-size cart after check-in. This can lead to some delays in baggage handling, both for you and other travelers.

With a hard-shell suitcase, you can usually drop off your luggage directly and continue your journey more quickly.

Our check-in staff will assist you if your baggage needs to go in Odd-size. But for your own comfort and a smoother travel experience, we recommend choosing a hard-shell suitcase whenever possible.

Read more about Odd-size in the menu below.

Odd-sized baggage

Odd-sized baggage is extra check-in luggage – also called heavy baggage or special baggage. This includes everything from skis and sporting equipment to tools and prams. If you’re bringing a pet with you on the flight, it will also typically be considered odd-sized baggage. You can read more on the Travelling with pets  page.

Examples of Odd-size bagage:

  • Prams, folding pushchairs, wheelchairs
  • Pets, including dogs and cats
  • Bicycles
  • Winter gear, including skis, snowboards etc.
  • Musical instruments
  • Tools and associated equipment
  • Recreational gear, including fishing rods, tents etc.
  • Large electronic devices, including TVs, drones, computer monitors, audio equipment etc.

Dropping off odd-sized baggage at the airports

Odd-sized baggage can be dropped off at your airline’s check-in desk at the airport. You must drop off odd-sized baggage at the desk, regardless of whether you have checked in online or via an airport self-service check-in machine.
